The Walt Disney Company launches DIGICOMICS
by mb on Dez.12, 2009, under projects
Let´s talk about the evolution of comics. In 2008 the radicalfuture research team realized an extensive research project for The Walt Disney Company on how digital media are influencing people and communities in different countries and in particular how people are interacting with that media, sharing, reading and telling stories.
radicalfuture has identified and investigated the most relevant new media trends, emerging consumer trends and has explored key changes in the socio-cultural and technological landscape for publishers and the impact on their business. As part of the research project, radicalfuture has conducted an ethnographic study of early adopters in 8 countries. China, India, Finland, Norway, Japan, Germany, Italy and USA. The team spent time observing the way digital natives live, analized their habits, desires and dreams for the future usage of media and technology. The main objective of the ethnographic study has been to deliver a global insight into, and to gain local understanding of the attitudes and behaviors of young adults and the way they consume new media and digital content in a rapidly changing media landscape.
The project generated a deep insight of the todays digital culture and of what we call Generation @, the new generation of consumers always on and always connected. On these findings the New Media division at Disney Publishing Worldwide developed a variety of ideas, among of these was also the idea of DigiComics. Gianfranco Cordara and his colleague Dario Di Zanni, the two Italian minds behind the project, are ready to successfully present their mission. DigiComics is going mobile!
The plan is to release traditional Disney comic stories in animated format to iPhones, iPods, and Sony PSP. They will first be made available in Italy and English speaking countries. In the new year, DigiComics will enter in more countries and add more platforms as well. The solution was programmed by the italian interactive agency mutado.
So, digital kids and disney lovers, get ready for the official launch of DigiComics on December 15th! Look under the hood of DigiComics and check the interactive Presentation online: DigiComics! The Evolution of Comics
